Sam Smithは失恋の歌のプロだと思います

AppleのCMソングにも使われた「Palace」は、終わってしまった恋の美しさを思い返す歌ですが、この「One last song」は、恋が終わりかけていると知りながら、まだ想わずにはいられない恋人に、最後の歌で思いを告げる、という情景を歌った曲です。

「またこの歌が君の心を開かせてはくれないか」とは歌っていますが、もう電話にも出てくれない恋人との関係は終わるしかないのでしょう。

切なく儚い失恋の歌です。

原曲はThe Shirellesという60年代のバンドが歌っています。そちらも良いですが、Amy Winehouseのカヴァーしたバージョンもまた、切なくロマンティックで素敵です

曖昧な関係の人の腕に抱かれながら、二人にかかった魔法がまだ解けないで欲しい、と願う想いを歌った歌です。

この曲の歌い出しは「誰だってハイになりたい時がある」という歌詞で始まり、「気分が沈んでいる時には他に何ができる？」と続きます

Cold water(冷たい水)というタイトルですが、ここで歌われている水とはドラッグのことでしょう

つまりこの曲は、一人で落ち込んでいる時にドラッグにハマり抜け出せなくなってしまった恋人(か友人)に対して、「君がドラッグに溺れて戻ってこれないなら、自分が冷たい水の底へ飛び込んで君を助けにいく」と歌っているのです

もはや和訳など必要ないほど有名なこの歌ですが、訳したことで改めて歌詞の美しさに気づけました

ミュージカル映画Annieの中で、特に深く印象に残ったのはこの曲でした

原作のミュージカルからのナンバーではなく、Siaが映画のために書き下ろしたオリジナル曲です

アニー役のQuvenzhaneの歌声も素晴らしいですが、Siaが歌ったバージョンが特に好きです

Opportunityとは「機会・チャンス」のこと

「チャンスを夢見ながら不遇な時を過ごしてきた主人公が、ようやく思い焦がれた瞬間に手が届きそうになった歓びと感動」を歌った歌です

音楽で成功し、波乱の半生を生き抜いた先でマイケルがこの曲を作ったって言うのは、本当にすごいことだと思うんですよね

歌詞を読むとわかるんですけど、本当に瑞々しくて鮮やかな歌詞なんです

それなりに長い歌ですが歌詞はシンプルで、難しいことも言ってません

それだけに、言葉に尽くせない思いが溢れてるように感じる曲です

楽しみです

この曲は、ナポレオンが降伏したウォータールー(ワーテルロー)の戦いと恋の戦争を重ね合わせて、より相手に惚れてしまった方が「君には負けた、降参だ」と白旗を上げている、という図式のキュートな歌です

しかし最後には「負けたけど勝った気分」と歌ってるところが良いですよね
